GSA chief Princess Reema new Saudi ambassador to US

Princess Reema bint Bandar Al-Saud has been named Saudi Arabia’s new ambassador to the US.

Princess Reema has been active in sports administration, and especially women’s sport, in Saudi Arabia for several years, and she has served as vice-president of women’s affairs at the General Sports Authority since 2016.

She now becomes the first female ambassador for Saudi Arabia, and takes up a role previously held by her father, Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, between 1983 and 2005.

Her father’s role meant that she spent time in the US while she was growing up, and studied at George Washington University.

In addition to her role with the General Sports Authority, Princess Reema has been president of the Saudi Federation for Community Sports and a member of the International Olympic Committee.

In 2017 Princess Reema was named Arab Sport Personality of the Year in recognition of her contributions to women’s sport in the country.

She has also held a number of business roles and has frequently advocated for a greater role for women in the Saudi workforce.
